So recently we were over at my parent's house near the curio cabinet where my mom keeps all my dolls from when I was a little girl. It is a beautiful piece of oak furniture, made by the Amish. "That's a great piece of furniture... but I probably wouldn't put dolls in it." was Frank's comment. I told him that my mom didn't want to get rid of all my dolls, so they bought the cabinet so that she could display them and preserve them. "Ok, I think I'm getting it." he said. "Basically, if you have stuff that you don't know what to do with, or you don't want people to see it, then you buy something to put it in." Of course! That pretty much sums up the White Family's Organizational System.
It may be expensive, but it works.
Ha! It works, but I may have to stop organizing soon :) In the meantime, I am having fun.
Here is an example... I decided we needed a piece of furniture by the front door, because Frank usually walks in and puts his keys, phone, etc. on whatever is handy... usually the coffee table. There isn't another good place for him to leave that stuff, because it is too far to walk downstairs and put them on his dresser. So Saturday we bought a cabinet and it works great. Today I walked in the house and VOILA! saw his keys and phone sitting on their new home... there you go, pretty AND functional! Ok, it still needs a little decorating, but this is all a work in progress.

Here's another random news item. I got a new spring coat with a funky pattern on it. I liked it, but wasn't sure how I would feel once I'd worn it a few times. Here's the thing... I have never had so many comments about an item of clothing before. Complete strangers have stopped me to tell me they like my coat. My friends see it sitting on a chair and say things like "Cute coat! Is it yours??" obviously implying that I'm not generally stylish enough to wear such a coat. It makes me feel fashionable... but since I'm probably not going to upgrade the rest of my wardrobe, this could be as good as it gets...

too funny! isn't it funny what we pick up from our parents? even when we don't realize it!
oh, and if you are not fashionable, what does that make me?? well, considering I never go shopping, I'd say it makes me considerably out-of-date! love you, j
